I make large scale mixed media paintings which have multi-layered narratives. Acrylic backgrounds function like theater sets within which bodies in lush oil colors perform as if on the stage. There is a sense of play and improvisation; embroidered details sit next to wide brushstrokes, the frame is a part of the artwork itself, stretched from opposite sides, screws visible. The content fuses abstraction and figuration - erotic scenes: people in masks, animals creeping behind mystical ornaments in dramatic modern landscapes, complicated love between surreal bodies. There are often strong naked women in the foreground. In the background wild beasts, half man half animal carrying party hats hiding behind trees and luring in the bushes.
I am bringing together historic references and modern influences which marry and reproduce. The works express a philosophical lust for life, questioning the balance between humans, animals and nature and their ever complicated myriad relationships.
